While we, at Cambaj, embrace responsible sourcing and production, we know many of us wonder how to shop wier. In order to help you cutting the noise, we've put together a little guide to help you treating yourself responsibly for the long term.
1 Read the Label
I know it can seem basic but it's like drinking water, we probably don't do it enough.
Spoiler Alert, product information are available on the item we choose to purchase.
To know the truth behind our clothes we need to look at their labels.
The first thing you want to know? Fabrics Composition & Production Origin
2 Recycled
Polyester, Nylon, Poly-blend, Poly-Viscose and friends are oil based & plastic materials.
The End.
There is no shortcut and its a conscious choice to make.
Now, certain products like underwear, gym outfit and others can require a bit of stretch for comfort.

As an alternative, Econyl , Re-blend, and other GRS certfied recycled fibers are second life polyesters made reusing existing materials. Their production used less water, saved items from, going to landfill and are certified without microplastics for your body.

3 Natural Fibers
Let's start with Cotton.
Unfortunately we don't always know ho it's been harvested, picked, replanted etc... To help us, GOTS and Better Initiative Cotton are trust worthy labels.
Certified organic cotton, not treated, replanted and for which people worked in respectful conditions.
4 Tencel
A natural material made from eucalyptus harvest, often blended with recycled polyester because its fibers are too short to be used alone.
It consumes less water than cotton, is replanted and can now be recycled.

5 Certification
We'll get to it later but in case of doubts, look for global certifications. Your go to labels are Oekotek, GRS, GITS, Standard 100 and B Corp.
Always check at brand's website before purchasing.
While it's expensive for small brands to get certification, responsible suppliers have them.
6 Close to home is always best
Remember? One of the first information you want to know is the origin of your product. The closer the production, from the brand's headquarter the less the carbon and the most likely they will work hand in hand with their suppliers and care for their makers. And if it's close to you home, it's even better.
7 Reuse, Repair, Recycle
Get your favorite jeans some stitches, change this button of your shirt, pull back this wool thread in your jumper. while it's not applicable to all products, look for a local C Bin, there are more and more around.
8 Change Takes Time
Consumption patterns are strong and it takes time to replace them by building new ones. Find your priorities and quick wins, then practice deeper and differently.
